Home For The Soul

Hi Everyone,

Last week was a trying week for me as I found out about my grandmother’s passing after spending a beautiful mother’s day at niagara on the lake with my family.

This was really hard to take for me as I had a very special relationship with her and I had always envisioned my children meeting her. I also thought that I would be lucky enough to see her in person once more as she lived in Iran.

Now you may wonder why I’m sharing this story with you and some of you may already have a sense of where I’m going with this.

The day before my grandmother’s passing, my mom called me from Iran as she was visiting with my grandmother and asked if I had a few minutes to chat. I was taking care of 5 kids that day for a play date and I had a pizza in the oven when she called me so of course I said not really! Somehow my mom convinced me to stay on the phone longer and also got me to speak to my grandmother. I insisted that I had no time and maybe we could connect later.

Lucky enough my mom didn’t take no for an answer and she put my grandmother on the phone. As we were using an app with phone screen I saw my grandmother looking the youngest and the most vibrant that I’ve seen her in years. She was full of smiles and laughing a lot while telling me about a dream she had with me in it but for the life of me I can’t remember her words!!! and her face is all a blur now. :(

This is all because I wasn’t fully present during our conversation. This hurts like hell and it sucks that I’m angry at myself about it as it’s now a reason for having a regret in my life. I can honestly say that I’ve been blessed with very little or no regrets so far in my life but this one has been a hard one to overcome.

I’m not sharing this story because I’m looking for sympathy but for the lesson that it has taught me and I hope by sharing it with you I can help to prevent a similar regret in your life.

Living mindfully is an every day, every moment, every second practice and when we live in the wonderful present moment we don’t give ourselves the opportunity to regret anything, as we have lived the moments in our lives with every part of being “present”.

I urge you to join me in making a commitment to live with more awareness of the present movement in your life, even if it’s parts of your day at first until it becomes something you just do.

A great teacher once shared this beautiful way of living in the present which can also help us with sharpening our mind and preventing alzheimer’s disease, “at the end of each day, before going to bed recap your entire day in your mind from the moment you awake to your last activity of the day before heading to bed” This will help you to stay more present in your days as you know you will have to remember all of the day’s events later in the evening.

As always, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share my lessons with you and I hope to hear from you and hear your stories that have made an impact on how you’re living your life mindfully.
